Life in the Spirit
--by Joe Dalton
Third Day: Friday, March 28th, 2003
Jesus came so that we can have:
1. Abundance of Life
2. Overwhelming Joy
3. The Peace that Overpasses All Understanding
Any means that use manipulation and [and/or] intimidation to control another person is like witchcraft.
The fruit of te Spirit should be in every Christian:
--LOVE
--JOY
--PEACE
--PATIENCE
--GENTLENESS
--GOODNESS
--FAITH
--MEEKNESS
--TEMPERANCE
Agreement is not the necessary ingredient for unity, Love is.
The gifts of the Spirit:
--Word of Wisdom
--Word of Knowledge
--Faith
--Healing
--Working of Miracles
--Prophecy
--Discerning of Spirits
--Divers Kinds of Tongues
--Interpretation of Tongues
..."but all these are done by one and the same Spirit, giving to each one according to His will.
For as the body is one, and has many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body, so also is Christ.
"For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Greeks, whether we we be slaves or free, and have been all made to drink into one Spirit. For the body is not one member, but many... And whether a member suffers, all the members suffer with it; or one member be honored, all the members rejoice with it. Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular."
"And God set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that the ones that perform miracles, the ones that heal, the ones who help, the ones that administer, the ones that have the gift of tongues.
"Are all apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? are all workers of miracles? have all the gift of healing? do all speak in tongues? do all interpret? But covet earnestly the best gifts. And, yet, I show youa more excellent way:
"If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have no love [agape], I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling symbal. And if I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and if I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have no love [agape], I am nothing. And if I give all my material possessions to feed the poor, and if I give my body to be burned, and have no love [agape], it doesn't do me any good.
"Love is longsuffering, it is kind; love does not envy; love does not boast; love is not puffed up; does not behave unseemly, seeks not its own, is not easily provoked, thinks no evil, doesn't rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; it bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never dies.
--I Corinthians 12 & 13
Perfect love casts out fear.
When we pray in tongues, we bypass our intellect. God wants to be worshipped in spirit and truth. When we pray in tongues, we pray in the spirit. When we sing in tongues, we sing in the spirit. [While these statements are true, we can certainly pray and sing in the spirit without the gift of tongues]
If we are not evangelizing, we are traitors.
We should not seek healing, but the Healer, not the gifts, but the Giver.
